Veera, a month old Orangutan photographed by Rahman Roslan was born at the Singapore Zoo which has the largest social colony of endangered Sumatran and Bornean orangutans in the world. Bornean orangutans are an endangered species, due in part to deforestation. As well as the destruction of their natural habitat, they are also deliberately killed by hunters for the bushmeat trade, while young orangutans are even caught to be sold as pets. With the rate at which they are declining, according to the IUCN they are thought to be extinct within the next decade. Article.
